Pose Perfection: Classic Poses for Wedding Photography in Melbourne

A Guide for Elegant and Editorial-Loving Melbourne Brides

If you're recently engaged and feeling a bit nervous about posing for the camera, you're not alone. Many couples have the same concern when it comes to their wedding photography. But fret not, because I'm here to guide you through it.

Firstly, congratulations on your engagement! As a professional wedding photographer based in Melbourne, I've had the pleasure of capturing the love stories of many couples like yourselves. One concern that often comes up during our initial consultations is the fear of feeling "awkward" in front of the camera. Let me assure you, it's a common concern, but one that quickly fades away with the right guidance.

The Magic of a Skilled Photographer

It's true, many couples come to me expressing their apprehensions about posing for their wedding photos. However, what they often discover is that with a skilled photographer by their side, the experience becomes effortless and enjoyable. I pride myself on creating a relaxed and comfortable environment where you can truly be yourselves, allowing your natural beauty and love to shine through.

We honestly just had fun, enjoyed our time as a couple, and before we knew it we had the most amazing album that honestly makes me really happy to look at. Each photo brings me back to a funny/joyful moment at the time. I never thought of a photographer as somebody who can actually 'make a moment' so to speak, but that's actually surprisingly true. Holly just has such a great vibe that's contagious, we would have had a great time even if there was no camera! But there was, and seriously, they are the best photos either of us have of ourselves.

The Journey to Natural Poses

When it comes to posing, I like to start with fun and interactive poses, such as walking hand in hand or sharing a dance. These activities not only help to break the ice but also result in genuine smiles and laughter, capturing candid moments that truly reflect your love and connection.

Throughout the photoshoot, I gently prompt and guide you, encouraging authentic interactions and emotions. I believe that the most beautiful photographs are those that capture the essence of who you are as a couple, and my role is simply to facilitate those moments.

The Art of Minor Tweaks

While candid moments are precious, I also understand the importance of achieving the perfect pose for those timeless portraits. After capturing candid moments, I'll make minor adjustments to ensure that you both look and feel amazing. Whether it's adjusting your posture, suggesting a different angle, or playing with lighting, my goal is to create images that you'll cherish for a lifetime.

My Helpful Suggestions

  1. Meet your photographer: Consider scheduling an portrait engagement session with your photographer before the big day or invite them along to capture your engagement party. This will give you a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera and familiarise yourself with your photographer's style. 2. Focus on Each Other: Keep your attention on your partner during the photoshoot. Focus on the love and connection between you two, and let your genuine emotions shine through. The more laughter and love shown the better!

  3. What to do with hands: One common concern I hear from couples is what to do with their hands during posing. A simple trick is to always have your hands gently touching something. Whether it's your partner's face, your bouquet, the fabric of your dress, or wrapped around your partner's waist, this small gesture adds a sense of intimacy and connection to your photos.

  4. Relax and Have Fun: Most importantly, relax and enjoy the moment! Your wedding day is a celebration of your love, so embrace that joy and excitement of the day.

Final Thoughts

In the end, it's not about being a model or knowing how to strike the perfect pose. It's about being yourself and trusting in the process. With a skilled photographer by your side, you'll find that those initial fears of feeling awkward in front of the camera quickly dissipate, replaced by a sense of ease and joy.

So, as you embark on this journey of wedding planning, remember to choose a photographer who not only captures beautiful images but also makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Your wedding day is a celebration of your love story, and it deserves to be captured in all its beauty.
